GOt my first share investment this week- I was allotted 100 shares of Petronet LNG Ltd. but my invest ment record isnt terrific- Petronet has already dipped to less than the offer price! technically, I have already made a loss! ANyway, I still believe this stock is a good "fundamental" stock, well-suited for long-term investment. Will hold it (Like I have a choice! :)) )
Planning to invest in Data Access next. Will spk to appa before deciding.

Coming back to my portfolio, I now have to shares - Polaris and Petronet. And the only thing common to the two is the letter P, as I am very happy to announce. If $ dips, petronet rises, PSL drops. If $ Rises, Petronet Falls, PSL rises. Otherwise, factors affecting performance of either of these two companies is not really linked to each other. That way, Iam proud to state, I really am following principles that I had learnt in college. So the beta of my portfolio, though not quite 0, is somewher less than 1, atleast. It shd be somewhere arnd 0.5, I guess.
Started with my music class- and my new teacher is a holy terror! she makes me feel like, i dont know- one of those slugs or soemthing. And here I was,a ctually thinking I could sing! Shes is a perfectionist of the nth order, and I am barely passable!!

Let me know what your comments are, on the same. I found it interesting. Is Dark Matter an uninteresting name? Calvin finds "Dark Matter" an uninteresting name assigned to beautiful, mysterious space, i.e., the space is wasted with a boring name. I, on the other hand, find "Dark Matter" interesting because it implies beautiful, mysterious space! When calvin sees dark matter, he probably sees just darkness. I see space, with its galaxies, stars, nebulae, whatever.
Had a terrible day today. And learnt a very, very important lession. Keep all your documents in place. Do not go leaving them all around. My quest for a visa to the US of A has left me feeling breathless, out of tiredness. FIrst, I couldnt find my B. Com. Degree certificate. I ran around, all over the place. Met up some girl in PSL whose dad is with the University of Madras. Went to my college to see if they had it. Dragged poor suresh also, along with me. And finally found it at Mom's place, after a week of desparate search!
Submitted that, and lthen found the woman at the visa helpdesk hadnt given in my Aptech Cert! Got that done, adn today, they wanted my Aptech Marksheets! I mean, who collected them, anyway?! And unlike the University of Madras, which is still hale and hearty, Aptech barely exists now- its been taken over by SSI. And the Aptech Center I was studying with is no longer a franchisee of this new entity! Good Lord! Fortunately for me, however, those guys still had my certificate (whew!). And they were remarkably efficient about it, too. No fuss, no complaints, this guy says, "Oh your certificate- no issues, it should still be here", calls a chap in, asks him to locate it, and voila! There it is, in less than 10 minutes!! Pity, but they were atleast 10 times more efficient than the support staff at Polaris itself!
Got a headache from all that tension, now. Have to learn to relax, somehow!

Really looking fwd to meetig the children! They've grown so much! And that reminds me, I havent done any shopping for those two brats! The last time I spoke to them, Arjun wanted a jigsaw puzzle, quite predictably! Abhi, of course, with his propensity for laziness, merely wanted a "yellow car". Its quite remarkable how a four-year-old (Arjun) manages to finish a 250 Piece Jigsaw puzzle. Krishna is one of the best moms I know, really. Very encouraging, very supportive.
Yeah, I'm terribly proud of them. But that goes with the "aunt" territory. All the other aunts I know are more or less like me.
I guess we are moving on to another phase in life- the first phase being, the time when you are pampered (relatively speaking), lots of attention to you, in the form of parents, grand-parents, aunts, uncles, etc etc etc. The next phase, of course, you spend paying off all what you got earlier, to kids like yourself a few years back. They are so much a part of your life, but you are so temporary in theirs! But you love them so much, that you are okay with it! There really is no such thing as a free lunch!

Anyway. Hey, sudeep, I got a very old, dog-eared copy of "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" at the British Council- it was rather sweet!
Was just thinking about layers and levels of thought- take Calvin and Hobbes, for example. There are two very obvious levels- the first, very funny, cute level, that of an extremely precocious child. The other, of course, is the underlying philosphical level. This is the really interesting one, isnt it? The way Calvin poses fundamental questions on everyday life.
The Other kind of level is slightly different. Hofstadter talks about it quite a bit in Mind's I. In this case, you hardly every realise the level that exists, most of the time. Take this text for example. There are actually two distinct processes that are carried out as you are reading it. You look at the text. But the text itself gains importance only because of the meaning you attach to each word and each alphabet. Now thats the second level, the "translation"ary level.
Find this extremely interesting. Probably, this could explain evolution to a certain extent. A new level is built only because each generation takes the older levels for granted. Memory. Theres a theory that each of our cells carries its own memory bank, of sorts. Thats why body cell react to anitgens, self-destruct, etc etc. The human being is an organisation itself! I mean, every body knows that concept, but few people realise the implications of it! Transposing- the Corporate orgainsation is a living being, just governed by different rules.
Just blabbering, I can see that! But start off on one chain, and you get lead on and on and on into a veritable maze.
of course, the best layer would be the "Shrek" Layer:
SHREK: For your information, there's a lot more to ogres than people think.
DONKEY: Example?
SHREK: Example? Okay, um, ogres are like onions.
DONKEY: [Sniffs] They stink?

A mad week! Totally hectic! and its just beginning! most of the days, am wrung out by the time I reach!
Anyway. My reading's stalled again. Have to drop this book I am reading, seriously. Its getting boring. NOne of the chaps seem to have anything new to say!
will probably start the "Name of the Rose" next. But this stupid book that I read gave the climax away in the name of the rose! Priya, will that spoil the book?
I was wondering the other day about the lack of direction in my reading. I read about diverse topics, but dont know much about any one specifc topic! I like reaing a little abt philosophy, some history, some science, some everything, but not much of anything! I was asking appa. Appa says its too early to focus my reading on anything. Just explore, kinds! which is patently sensible. Sudeep would probably say, stop worrying, start reading books which REALLY interest you, unlike the Mind's Is of the world! anyway, lets see.
